BACKGROUND

The pregnancy is a condition where the levels of HCG in the body is elevated and can be detected in either urine or blood. The urine pregnancy test is the most common method used for home pregnancy confirmation. This test is taken 1 week after the missed period and usually provides the confirmation on pregnancy. If in doubt, the blood pregnancy test provides the confirmation as it detects the values of HCG in blood. The detection of HCG <5 mlU/ml it is considered as negative and detection of HCG between 5-25 mlU/ml is considered as equivocal and the test to be repeated again to confirm pregnancy.1

The aim of the experiment is to perform pregnancy tests.

Hold it for 5-10 seconds or the amount of time indicated on the label of the kit. The kit is checked for the results, based on the instructions on how to detect the results-positive, negative or invalid.2

Blood pregnancy test

The blood pregnancy test is performed by collecting the human blood sample and detection of HCG. The elastic band is wrapped on the upper arm to stop the blood flow and to get the visibility of veins. After location of the vein, the skin around the area is cleaned with alcohol. The needle is inserted and the blood is collected in a tube. Post collection of the blood, the elastic band and needle are removed and cotton gauze is placed at the puncture site to prevent the oozing of blood from the puncture site. The blood collected is sent for detection of HCG levels in the blood.3
