Completing the continuing education: Genetic counselors must recertify the board certification and obtain continuing education units in either a five-year or ten-year cycle.

In addition to all this, genetic counselors must also obtain various skills apart from their medical expertise. Here are a few skills and traits that will benefit genetic counselors in their careers:

·       Good communication skill

·       Proper understanding of medical ethics, which also includes some of the disability rights.

·       Ability to integrate client’s requirements and preferences into the treatment plans.

·       High compassion and patients.
