Earn a degree in genetic counseling: Genetic counseling degree programs are like master’s degrees and are the minimum eligibility need for genetic counselors. Mostly MS in genetic counseling programs is two years duration and includes clinical internship and other such fieldwork experiences like advocacy experience. All these programs mainly involve thesis or some of the capstone experiences that covers topics such as

Get a certification or license:

To become a certified genetic counselor, you have to pass the required exam after your master’s program.

Certification is mainly required for an employment license. Not every state needs a genetic counselor to be licensed, but students can quickly check the state medical board.
