Ph.D. (Neuroscience)

A candidate seeking admission to the course of study leading to the award of Doctor of Philosophy should meet the following criteria :

Master’s degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer applications / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science / M.Sc. Degree in Psychology from a recognized Institute / University.

You are also eligible if you have completed a minimum of a four-year course leading to Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University.

Candidates appearing for the final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

At least 55% (50% for SC / ST / PH candidates) marks or an equivalent grade or grade point average from secondary (10th) examination onwards is required.

Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points to determine their eligibility.

M.Sc. (Neuroscience)

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer applications / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science / B.Sc. Degree in Psychology / Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University.

Monthly Compensation:

All the students are provided a fellowship of Rs. 12,000 per month.

General Information:

Foreign nationals seeking admission to NBRC must fulfil all the eligibility requirements for Ph.D./M.Sc. described above.

In addition, they must satisfy all the conditions as per rules of Govt. of India.

This is a two-year programme. During the first year, Masters students at NBRC have to go through an intensive course-work which provides them a firm grounding in molecular, systems, computational and cognitive neuroscience. Practical courses are also included for a hands-on experience with various techniques which are used in modern neuroscience research. In second year, students select a lab to do a full time research project.

(i) Interested students may give an option for switching over to the M.Sc.- Ph.D. Integrated Programme towards the end of the second year of the M.Sc. programme after qualifying in all the subjects and completing all the requirements for the award of M.Sc. degree, including submission of dissertation and qualifying in the Viva-Voce examination.

(ii) The assessment of the suitability of such students to M.Sc.-Ph.D. Integrated Programme would be decided as per the norms prescribed by BOS based upon :

a) Marks obtained in the coursework.

b) A written test towards the end of the second year. This may be in any appropriate form as decided by the BOS of NBRC. The candidates may also be requested to submit an SOP on any of the Research Topic he / she may be interested in pursuing Ph.D.

c) An interview which could also include presentation on dissertation, in which a duly constituted 5 Member Committee with at least one External Member would assess the final suitability of the student for the switch over from M.Sc. (Neuroscience) to M.Sc. – Ph.D. Integrated (Neuroscience) Programme. Such students, who switch over under this option, would be governed by the existing Regulations of M.Sc.-Ph.D. Integrated (Neuroscience) programme for their remaining period of the programme.
