BACKGROUND
These preparation are used for the relief of irritation and other problems resulting from sunburn. Sunburn causes damage to skin cells and in some cases there is possibility of bacterial infection. So all these preparation should be antiseptic. These are either aqueous solutions or o/w type emulsions and should be able to produce both protective and cooling effect to relief the sunburn. These preparation should not greasy or oily because they will retard the antiseptic effect. Rose water is used as a suitable vehicle.Camphor acts as a mild analgesic.
Aim: To prepare and submit 20gm of Sunburn preparation.

Chemicals: Calamine,

Glycerin,
Bose water,
Methyl para hydroxy berzoatc.
Apparatus: Beaker,
Measuring cylinder,
Mortor and pestle,
Glass rod.

PROCEDURE
Mix calamine and zinc oxide to from a smooth paste with glycerin. Add sufficient amount of rose water to make a cream.Dissolve camphor in the alcohol and mix the cream and add water to make up the volume.To get favourable shade with calaminne, a small amount of Ferric oxide may be added.
