BACKGROUND

Aim: To prepare and submit 20 gm of Hair Conditioner.1

REQUIREMENTS

Chemical: Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB),

Cetearyl Alcohol,

Perfume, 

Preservative,

Citric Acid Ph 3.0-5.0,

Colour and water (deionized).

Apparatus:  Beaker,

Measuring cylinder,

Mortor and pestle,

Glass rod.

PROCEDURE

Add 90% of the water and the CTAB to the main manufacturing vessel. Heat to 70-750C.Melt the cetyl alcohol in a jacketed side vessel. Heat to 70-750C. When both phases are at 70-750C, add the oil phase to the water phase with homogenization to form an emulsion. When the emulsion has formed, commence cooling to 4O0C with paddle stirring only. Dissolve the preservative in a portion of the reserved water. Add to the main vessel with continuous mixing.Add color to the main vessel. Continue to cool. Add fragrance to the main vessel. Mix until homogeneous product is obtained. Adjust pH with citric acid dissolved in water to pH 3.0 – 5.0. Cool to 35°C.
