Different roles as an ecologist

Junior ecologists

They are responsible for identifying some of the common or indicator species by using some aids.

Ecologists

They identify every species of taxonomic group or maximum species within a required habitat.

Senior ecologists

They are responsible for identifying all species of taxonomic groups or even all species in a given habitat.

Principal ecologists

They demonstrate some specialist knowledge of the taxonomic group or the type of habitat and recognize all species within that group or habitat. They design, supervise, and mentor some complicated and big geographical-scale ecological surveys that perfectly fit a specified ecological purpose.

Forest ecologist

Responsible for studying and classifying various species of plants, animals, and insects in the forest. They study the effect of human and global warming on forest soil and the climate.

Marine ecologists

They deal with aquatic life and its impact on the environment that we are living in. They mainly work in zoos and aquariums to help in the preservation and protection of marine life forms.

Restoration ecologists

Responsible for working in areas where there is ecological damage, such as deforestation, and attempts to revive the environment by plantation of trees and, at times, eliminating non-native weeds.

Job outlook

Growth in a career as an ecologist largely depends on the organization the ecologist is working for. When an ecologist works for a privately owned company, the growth is faster than in a government-owned company. After the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the possibility of more such pandemics in the future, more and more ecologists will be required to study the ecosystem.

Salary of an ecologist

The salary of an ecologist mainly depends on their academic qualification, the organization from which the degree is obtained, and the number of years of experience they have gained. The starting income can be between Rs. 300000 and Rs. 400000 as annual income.
