If we wish to write a clear and excellent laboratory report then we should clarify completely what we want to achieve in the experiment. After all, the ultimate aim of any laboratory report is to present and communicate the work perfectly and assist the reader for better understanding.

It should include clearly the process utilized in establishment of the findings, so that they can be easily reproduced in the later stage for authentication. It should be written in such a way that it can be maintained as an independent record without the requirement of any kind of input from the author.

But there are some common mistakes that most of the people make while writing a lab report and that should be avoided. Let’s have a look on these common and silly mistakes.

1. Report writing without a properly defined purpose in the mind

Main scientific purpose an experiment should give correct direction to the whole report. Without knowing with correct purpose, we cannot write the introduction properly. Similarly, discussion part will also lack focus, if we are only not clear what we are trying to determine. The result part will also become very simple when we know the exact purpose.

2. Writing the report just before due date

When we will write the report just before the due date, then we might face two types of problem. At first we might have forgotten what we did in the lab and the second problem is we will not get enough time to have a good look on what we have written and thereby handing a first draft. Therefore, it is better to write at least the result analysis part as well as the materials and method on that day or within one to two days of laboratory work.
