DNA extraction

Deoxyribonucleic acid (abbreviated DNA) constitutes the genetic information of an organism therefore, its extraction is highly important for studying molecular properties of the organisms. DNA extraction is an important experiment of every molecular biology lab and it forms the base of any molecular experiment.

DNA gives information about whole lot of things. So, while isolating DNA from different samples the factors affecting the process of isolation most is cost-effectiveness, time management, excellence and the ease at which the methodology will be carried out. Therefore, a lot of experiments are being carried to figure out the most efficient protocol of DNA extraction.

This need of protocol urged the researchers Rishi Mahajan et al, for developing a protocol for extraction of metagenomic DNA from various environments like anaerobic biogas digest, human faeces, soil and ruminant stomach. The protocol was published in Molecular Biology Reports by Springer International Publishing AG. The protocol developed is highly effectual, less time consuming, and free from inhibitory things.

Along with extraction protocol, there was further evaluation of the DNA extracted using PCR-DGGE profiles for identification of various microbial species. The protocol will help the researchers and readers to know about the cost-effective technique and isolation of DNA from a very small sample. It consumes minimal time and there is high yield of DNA as compared to other protocols and commercial DNA extraction kits.
